About Us: Who Are We

Picture
We, a group of Latino Deaf and Hard of Hearing persons, want to see our people have equal rights and access to succeed in the Metropolitan Washington (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia) area. This organization is affiliated with National Council of Hispano Deaf and Hard of Hearing. (NCHDHH)

Our Vision
The Latino Deaf and Hard of Hearing Association of the Metropolitan Washington DC Chapter envisions communities where people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences work together, and share responsibility for improving our own lives and the lives of those around us



Our Mission Statement

The mission of Latino Deaf and Hard of Hearing Association of the Metropolitan Washington DC Area (LDHHAMDC) Chapter is to support the Latino Deaf Community by providing services, education, and advocacy that promote independence, opportunity, accessibility, and a social network.

Goals of LDHHAMDC are:

  • To promote educational, cultural, economic and social opportunities for Latino Deaf and Hard of Hearing; 
  • To advocate for public policy necessary to achieve equity, justice, and parity for Latino Deaf and Hard of Hearing though research, advocacy and public education; 
  • To educate the mass media, educational institutions, and the general public on the issues and concerns faced by the Latino Deaf and Hard of Hearing community of Metropolitan DC area. 
  • To serve as a catalytic agent for positive change by providing leadership and/or establishing special projects, organizations, etc; designed to meet the special needs of the Latino Deaf and Hard of Hearing community within or outside of the US. 
  • To educate and provide support to Latino parents of deaf and hard of hearing children related to their educational needs, experiences, and opportunities.

Minutes of Meetings

Every LDHHAMDC member can view the MINUTES OF MEETINGS, which are approved by the executive board and general meeting members. There are a few samples of the minutes below, you can read them. If you want to read the other specific dates, you have the rights to contact the entire secretary to send you the attachment as long as you are the member. They have met at the third Saturday of the month. 
As a member, you can make a motion at the general meeting or you can discuss any issues, suggestions or ideas with one of the officers prior to the general meeting date.
